Poway Unified School District is pleased to offer an Integrated Autism Spectrum Disorder(ASD) Preschool Program for the 2014-2015 school year. The classrooms are located at Deer Canyon and Pomerado Elementary Schools. The program serves 3 to 5 year old children with and without special needs. A general education developmental curriculum is used and includes large and small group instruction. Students in the program who are identified as having special needs experience difficulty in one or more of the following areas: speech and language, social skills and play skills.
The success of the integrated program greatly depends on the inclusion of children without special needs who act as peer models. The children work as an integrated group by learning and playing together in an atmosphere of acceptance and understanding. The curriculum is play-based and imbeds academic concepts into play and social experiences.
Our preschool staff will contact you to arrange a screening of your child to determine if your child is a match for the integrated program and provide information about the enrollment process.
