Understanding Your Child’s CAASPP Score Report
If you are the parent of a 4th or 5th grader, you should have received a score report detailing your student’s performance on last spring’s California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP). I’ve heard some complaints about how hard that report is to understand, so I thought I’d share the link to the California Department of Education’s video that walks through it step by step: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FQi4qlOCrmk&feature=youtu.be
I know it looks like a sketchy spam link, but it’s three minutes and 38 seconds of pretty good video that should eliminate your confusion. Please take a look.
PTA-Supported Bills
In my last column, I provided a long list of newly signed state legislation that affects schools. If you liked that, lucky you! The State PTA has just put out another list of all 40 PTA-supported bills that the Governor signed: http://downloads.capta.org/blast/leg/Chaptered+Bills_101515.pdf
This latest list will certainly give you a good idea of the power behind PTA’s legislative advocacy on behalf of children and families.
If you have an idea about a future legislation and advocacy column, please let me know. I’m happy to do some research and provide information about anything going on at the district, state, or federal level. Thanks!
